Most people enter marriage with the wrong person, at the wrong time and for the wrong reason. Modern dating is becoming accepted among Christians. I wonder why people rush into a relationship when they have not completed their education nor have any work to depend on. Divorce is increasing day by day because of lack of proper preparation and character to sustain the marriage. You will surely marry your soul mate and save your marriage if you consider the following before you enter into a relationship.
1. CLOSENESS TO YOUR CREATOR. From Mattew 6:33NKJV ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’. There are three parties in a marriage, God, husband and a wife. The three must agree before the marriage may be successful. Minus the consent or approval of one will bring a disaster. Before you propose or accept a proposal ask yourself these questions; Am I right with God? Is the person God’s choice for my life? Is this the right time? These account for why some couples always quarrel and others live at peace, love and understand each other. You must check yourself whether you are living a righteous life before you enter into marriage. When you uproot a plant from the soil it will die, this implies that we are dead when we are far away from God. Accepting or proposing to unbelievers is against the Christian doctrine (2 Corinthians 6:14). Also, you must seek God’s guidance before you propose or accept a marriage proposal. Life without Christ is full of crises
2. KNOW AND PURSUE GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE.
According to Ephesians 1:11NKJV ‘In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will’.Have you ever asked yourself these questions; who am I? Why am I on this earth? How can I reach my destination? Do you know that some plant grows and prosper at certain places than other places? Cocoa is a typical example. A man will never be fruitful at where he does not belong. We were predestined before the creation of the world. Predestined from the Encarta dictionary means to decide in advance what is going to happen. God is the potter and we are his clay (Jeremiah 18:2-6). Many people are pursuing their career because of money fame, and recognition. Most people are happy because of where they are now but it sad to note that was not the plan of God. Being successful in your career does not mean that God has raised you to that level. The devil can also promote you. From Hosea 4:6, my people perish because of lack of knowledge. So why don’t people reach their destination and how can I reach where God wants to send me? From James 4:2b, yet you do not have because you do not ask. Brethren, in order to reach where He wants to send you, just ask him and He will show you and direct your path as well (Mattew 7:7-9). You can be a pastor, lawyer, doctor, teacher etc. but first ask the one who sent you into this world before you pursue your career.
3.PURSUE GODLY VIRTUES.
Philippians 4:8NKJV ‘Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things’Virtue is fromGreek ‘arête’ which means moral excellence. The fruits of the Holy Spirit should define you as Christians. Pre-marital sex is against the virtue of holiness. Adultery may result from the unclean lifestyle you live before you enter into marriage. Virtues such as patience, kindness, modesty, diligence, gentleness among others are important for godly living. Most marriages collapse because of the character of one the couple or both of the couple. We must, therefore, pray to be endowed with good fruits. Also, we should mentor and learn from mature people who live Christ-like life.Again Searching and reading about these virtues is very important. Christianity is not about church going but brightening the corner where we are with the light in us. Every Christian is a light bearer. The light in us should be visible by how we talk, behave, dress or do our things(1 Timothy 4:2b). Virtues are like a glue that binds marriage in order words they make marriage stable.
Our relationship with God, God purpose/career and our character must be considered before we think of marrying. God’s choice for your life is your soul mate.Marriage is a journey to another world and it is a lifelong relationship and therefore you must enter with care before it ruins you.Your marital partner can affect where you would spend your eternity (Heaven or Hell).
